This was an experiment I did in order to test the new features of Mudbox like vector displacement, it also gave me a chance to really dig into skin shaders in mental ray. I took the head from my old 'Sven Rymdfarare'model, created clothes, brought that into mudbox and sculpted a high res mesh, baked vector discplace maps, brough that into Maxwhere I combined it with Master Zaps 'Fast SSS skin+' shaderI used a combination of photoshop and mudbox paint functions for the textures, the latter being extremely useful for painting over seams in critical areas.The eyes are somewhat complicated, its a series of meshes for the different parts of the eyes with a bunch of shaders blending into eachother. I had acccess to Softimage while I was working on this, so I did export it into Facerobot and experimented with its advanced facial animation. Unfortunantly, I donthave Softimage anymore so that part will have to wait, but the results looked very promising. Below is a non-animated turntable animation showing the character from all sides, it's not perfect by any means, but Im happy with the way it turned out. ( *.AVI x264 open source codec sRGB ) |
